Burnt Out
Burnt Out
Written by Kate Ball
Letters switch places, and meaning is lost,As leather hands crush and press.
Old leather, still strong, wraps tightly
Around what was once irreplaceable.
Then a line of fire comes out to burn
And scold the words that lie and presume
That the leather hands care.
But they are only angry and let the heated space
Between words spread into their apologies
And burn away all that once was.
