How to cope with bills and relationships
How to cope with bills and relationships
Written by Gary Hughes
Take the bill from N power, treat it as a love letter.
Because it is red
that suggests ‘passion’.
Notice its distanced tone,
the oxymoron
of the ‘dear customer’
Reply with a quote,
Shakespeare’s ‘There’s
beggary in a love
that can be reckon’d’,
sums up the situation.
Now onto the ‘awkward’
unrequited love. We will approach
it tenderly, like a
Business Studies examination.
Remember the first time you met
for that casual first drink?
Then the second, the third.
Did you keep any receipts?
No? Do not worry.
Try to consider how much you've spent
on each other. Nothing definite,
a rough calculation.
This is the number of your love,
how much you mean
to one another,
If that number is nothing,
think of that Bob Dylan line:
‘When you’ve got nothing
you’ve got nothing to lose.’
