The Silent Butterfly
Written by Deborah Lowther
Fresh from the chrysalis she dances, the symmetrical beauty flutters vibrantly on the generous breeze. Her energy vibrates on the tips of the antennae as her aria is heard throughout the lush garden. The moth awakens and follows loyally, her hypnotic dance.
A sweet solo is sent to seduce her; violins simper to penetrate her senses, classy clarinets enchant her, percussion beats boldly as he clasps her fragile form.
The tempo quickens as light fragments through her once perfect wings, creating rainbow spears as they bounce from the grass.
The symphony is stifling as the cacophony reaches a crescendo. His gong resonating ebbs away her delicate wings; the threadbare gliders diminish into dust.
The butterfly limps back to her chrysalis, her symmetrical beauty swallowed up by the ravenous breeze. Her energy lost on the twisted antennae, as her silence echoes through the treacherous garden.
